1. Feeling special about having twins
Parents often say they feel shocked or overwhelmed when they find out they are having more than one baby. Many said other family members and friends treated them differently because of the twin status. Mothers often say they felt proud, more blessed or special because they are having twins. Despite this many parents feel anxious about the different expectations and challenges they may face.
- We use the word ‘twin’ as short-hand but mean this to include triplet and higher order pregnancies throughout: in practice ask parents what they would like
- Many parents cherish the ‘special status’ that goes with having twins
- Having twins creates unique emotions and challenges
I’ve never felt as special in my entire life as I did when I was pregnant.
It was exciting, but also nerve-wracking. At our age, we went in with our eyes open.
